Music of the European Hanseatic cities
In the heyday of the Hanseatic League, almost 300 maritime and inland cities of northern Europe joined forces. Through free trade, these cities blossomed into centres of wealth, which is reflected in imposing brick churches and magnificent merchants' houses. But cultural life also flourished and left behind an interesting musical tradition.
Let us take you on a musical journey around the Baltic Sea! In a large recorder consort, we will explore (Northern) European instrumental and vocal music from the 15th to 17th centuries. You can look forward to musical highlights from Germany, Denmark and Poland as well as exciting excursions to England, Flanders and the Netherlands.
Immerse yourself in an intensive weekend full of fascinating music and the joy of playing! Discover the compositional peculiarities of the individual works by Senfl, Dulichius, Pederson, Tollius and Dowland, among others, in the historical context of the Hanseatic League and be inspired by the overarching similarities and cross-connections in the music of this period.
Target group
Recorder players who want to work on moderately difficult works.
Mastery of at least two types in baroque fingering as well as octave reading on f instruments is required. Great and sub-basses, Renaissance recorders as well as other instruments are very welcome!

The baroque dance
Dance was omnipresent in past centuries. It played a special role in the music of the 17th and 18th centuries: everyone knew the different dances, could distinguish between them and at court (and also in the military!) you were socially excluded if you didn't know how to dance.
In this workshop, we will focus on the different dances of this period. What was the tempo like? What rhythmic features characterised them? What was the inegal play all about? Which embellishments are suitable?
We will try to answer these and many other questions. Theory and playing practice go hand in hand. Ultimately, it is the sound result that counts, which should be an invitation to dance.
Important: the more low instruments are played, the better!

The Paetzold bass recorder seminar
... for the curious and interested
This weekend is all about the Paetzold by Kunath bass recorder family. Under expert guidance, you will explore the diverse sound world of these special instruments and have a good dose of fun making music.
From the assembly and disassembly of the square bass recorders, to blowing and playing techniques and general care, everything will be covered in this workshop and, above all, it will be shown how compact and manoeuvrable these sounding plywood recorders can be played, at least since their further development by Jo Kunath.
The programme includes works from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Romanticism as well as tango and jazz arrangements and Avantgarde. Susanne's expertise goes far beyond playing the Paetzold, so all participants can look forward to lots of extra tips.
Target group
Recorder players who want to familiarise themselves with the special possibilities of the square bass recorder. Reading on F and C instruments in treble and bass clef is a prerequisite. The sheet music will be sent in advance by e-mail and can therefore be prepared if necessary.

the somewhat different recorder ensemble in the recorder paradise of Fulda
This project ensemble rehearses on two weekends in September in the recorder paradise of Fulda. In addition to the seminar programme of the Fulda Recorder Shop, this project ensemble has a slightly different focus to the other workshops.
Through continuous and in-depth rehearsal work over two weekends on the same repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque and modern periods, the participants can experience and create music very intensively under the direction of Frank Oberschelp. At the end of the 2nd weekend there will be an internal presentation of the results of the work.
To make this possible, the following things are important:
All participants take part in both rehearsal weekends
It is expected that the participants prepare the pieces to be rehearsed and master their voices
The programme will be announced four weeks in advance and made available to the participants for preparation
A detailed instrumentation plan of who plays which part is known before rehearsals begin
The participants play different recorders in different voice types
Limited number of participants: Ensemble formation with up to 15 players
When registering, please indicate which instruments you are bringing so that a detailed rehearsal and instrumentation plan can be drawn up. The sheet music will be made available to participants four weeks before the event.
