Most recorders are made of wood. They should be cared for regularly.
For this care manufacturers offer different oil mixtures, usually based upon linseed oil and/or sweet almond oil. Oiling serves to protect the wood from dirt and water. It also improves the sound and response of the instrument. The low notes in particular can become more powerful if you oil your instrument regularly.
The basic rule: it is better to oil in thinner, more frequent layers.
